IRWIN Industrial Tool Company, previously known as American Tool Company INC, has a long history stretching for more than a century. In 1885, Charles Irwin patented the Auger Bit and formed the Irwin Auger Bit Company. In 1924, William Petersen invented and patented the first locking pliers in the world and formed the Petersen Manufacturing Company.
In 1985, after 60 years of innovation and a series of acquisitions, Petersen Manufacturing Company became American Tool Company and acquired Irwin Auger Bit Company in 1993. By then, ATC proudly owned over 20 world class brands such as IRWIN, VISE-GRIP and RECORD etc, with over 20 global manufacturing facilities.
Following the takeover of ATC by Newell Rubbermaid in 2003, a brand integration was developed, promoting IRWIN to the overall power brand and changing the company name to IRWIN Industrial Tool Company. Today, as one of the biggest manufacturers and suppliers of hand tools and power tool accessories in the world, we commit to continuously provide the best quality to the Export market!
